Whatizit?

A thingamabob? A whatchamacallit?

A while back a good friend of mine gave me a neat western whiskey go-with. It has a lot going for it. It's big; measuring over 5" across and 6" long. It is heavy and, I think, made of solid brass. It's slightly deformed, and shows evidence of being subjected to a fire.

The first thing that jumped out at me when I saw it was the horse shoe logo of Spruance Stanley & Co., but with Wolters Bros. & Co. name on it.

A second look revealed something else; WoTters Bros. not WoLters. Also odd, is the abbreviation of California; CALA / not Ca. or Cal.

To me, it appears to have been part of something else. I figured I'd toss it out there and get your take on it.

Whatizit???

////////////////////////////////

My initial inclination was that it was part of a clock. Many, many years ago, while metal detecting the site of a town in No. Cal., which burnt to the ground in it's entirety on Oct. 17, 1902,  I dug something very similar, advertising Dr. Harter's Wild Cherry Bitters. Although badly deformed, it had quite obviously been an advertising clock.

A fellow collector emailed me a photo a few minutes ago. Mystery, quite obviously solved...

 Thanks Brandon!

Spring 2017 List - Now Available

My IT guy did some upgrades to our office computer system and somehow the mailing list address files didn't get backed up. I'm in the process of trying to restore them...

In the meantime, the Spring 2017 mailing list is done. Lots in the way of fresh whiskies, right out of my collection.

Please email me with your contact info and I'll fire off a copy to you~

What's in your wallet? (Part 2)

ABA Auction 63 - phase 2

Someone posed the question during the last auction, "where are all the whiskies"? "Got me", was my reply. There were a handful, but nothing compared to the the other categories present.

Part two has a few; mainly minis and one hitter fifth.

By far, the rarest bottle in the whiskey category is the two city Newman's College figural football. I'd say that the J. Moore (no S.F.) is the second rarest. Well, maybe the Snowflake ties for second. Neither of them are slouches...

Anyone care to make a guestimate on where this bunch of stuff is going to hammer at? See following~
